Mom: It's time for Math Lil!
Lily:Mooooom! I don't want to do Math! I hate Math! I already know how to do the plusses and minuses!
Mom: You know how to add and subtract 0 to the first 10 numbers, how to add and subtract 2 to the first 10 numbers and how to add and subtract the first 10 numbers from themselves. There is A LOT more Math to learn!
Lily: I already know enough. I don't want to do anymore!
I go on to explain to my very verbal, language-oriented child how you need Math almost every day for the rest of your life and stopping learning it in the second half of first grade is not a wise idea. Lily is not very impressed.....
I then tell her she has no choice and there are some things in life you just have to do whether you like them or not! I get the "I've heard this before (many times?)" look and an "It's not fair!" before she slumps in her chair resigned. I can't resist one eensy weensy, "Life is not fair. The sooner you figure this out the easier your life will be!"
I have officially joined the ranks of mothers everywhere who call on the hated cliches of their own childhoods to teach their wayward children life lessons. Go me!

OH boy! The homeschooling decision is just on the horizon for me and I SO don't know what to do! I just don't have the confidence in myself to be that organized. You are such a great mom; I don't think I could have been that convincing (even with the old sayings!). I'm too darn honest sometimes! lol!
D
Carrie, I seriously laughed out loud on this one. I am the cliche queen already and my child can't even understand me yet. LOL. Kelly
